The People of Vienna – Episode 6

The last years haven’t been fair on our society. Humans all over the world have been subjected to absurd amounts of stress, while the constant storm of information, together with the plethora of socio-economic changes, has made it more and more confusing to live our lives. The proliferation of technology, in all fields of civilisation, creates a peculiar dichotomy between communication and connection – it’s never been easier to reach a person or a piece of information, while the it has become increasingly difficult to establish an emotional link to one another.

All the same, it’s a fascinating time to be alive, see this progress with our own eyes, and do your best at understanding it. Evolution is unavoidable, together with the trials it comes with, and it’s up to us to face, withstand, and conquer them. Perhaps it’s a test of unity, combined effort and resilience, where the winner is the entire human race. I know, I’ve always been “idiotically” optimistic.

I met Florian close to the Fallen Russian Soldier monument, located in Schwarzenbergplatz, and his charisma attracted my attention immediately. He looked like he just stepped down from the set of a Tarantino film, where he played an enigmatic and puzzling accountant, responsible for maintaining the cash flow in the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. His appearance, regardless of how cryptic of it was, was hiding a man full of positivity and joy.

For Florian, Vienna means a place of habit, which sometimes feels a little bit too comfortable. Well, I have to agree with him – Vienna is most of the time tranquil and peaceful, characteristics which are the foundation for the graceful life in the Imperial City.

When I asked him what does he love the most, he told me it’s his girlfriend, which helped him get through a tough period of his life. Maybe it’s thanks to her he told me that wherever he looks, he sees hope. It’s incredible what we can achieve, when we do it together.
